Disney California Adventure Park for Your Kids

by Sandi

about

Our family really likes the Disney California Adventure park. Rides are fun, crowds tend to be smaller, and due to it's smaller size, it's more manageable to tackle if you have just one day.

If you want to take in all of the Golden State in one fell swoop, then California Adventure is the place to be. The 55-acre theme park, which is located in the city of Anaheim, is designed to resemble the diversity and richness of California from its landscapes and landmarks to its history and culture. As such, visitors will find many of the things uniquely associated with California in miniature structures at this adventure park.

There are 5 main parts of here. As can be expected from a Disney theme park, each part offers unique attractions from the shows to the rides.

Sunshine Plaza
Before renovations started on the theme park, the Sunshine Plaza was the main entrance to the park. It was made up of huge letters spelling out the word "California," like that of the old Hollywood sign, with a mock model of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

With the renovation at Disney California Adventure park, all these will be replaced so that Sunshine Plaza harkenss back to 1920s Los Angeles. There will be a Red Trolley car as well as new shops and dining establishments.

Paradise Pier
The Paradise Pier is a reflection of California's famous coastal boardwalks like the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and Santa Monica Pier. As such, the attractions are very similar to the classic amusement park rides in said boardwalks, with the Maliboomer and California Screamin' as notable examples. New changes are also coming the visitors' way. One of these is the transformation of the portion patterned after Route 66, which will become Cars Land come 2012.

Golden State
At the Golden State land, visitors are treated to the natural wonders of California. It is sub-divided into 5 parts:
Condor Flats boasts Soarin' Over California, which simulates the famous hang gliders of the state.
Grizzly Peak Recreation Area reflects the Californian wilderness specifically the Redwood and Yosemite national parks. Visitors can enjoy the Grizzly River Run and the Redwood Creek Challenge, to name two.
Bay Area is obviously reflective of California's Bay Area, thus, the Victorian-themed architecture of the townhouses.
Golden Vine Winery evokes California's famed vineyards with its many restaurants serving fine food and wine.
Pacific Wharf is a mix of the Monterey's Cannery Row area and San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. Attractions include the Mission Tortilla Factory and the Boudin Bakery Tour.
Hollywood Pictures Backlot
As can be expected, the Hollywood Pictures Backlot is designed to reflect the glamour, glitz and glory of Hollywood with its boulevards and movie backlots as well television and movie-themed attractions.

A Bug's Land
Inspired by the hit movie of the same title, A Bug's Land at Disney California Adventure park features the viewpoint of the movie's main character Flik. As such, oversized human items and other foodstuffs are strategically scattered around the area. And being the child-friendly area that it is, attractions include Flik's Fun Fair, Fliks Flyers and Francis' Ladybug Boogie, to name a few.

If you and your family desire to become Californians and tour the Golden State in a few days, think no other theme park but the fantastic, fabulous and fun Disney California Adventure park!

The 3 Boys in San Diego Family Say Don't Miss:

The new Toy Story ride. Similar to Buzz Lightyear over at Disneyland, it's a shooting gallery ride, lots of fun and LONG. Lines for it tend to be long, though, and they don't have a Fast Pass, so be prepared for a long wait.
California Screamin' and Tower of Terror are wild rides, offering scarier thrills than Disneyland usually provides. They both get thumbs up! from our family.
If weary parents need a break, take the kids over to the Redwood Creek play area and let them run wild.
On a hot day, Grizzly Bear Rapids is just what the doctor ordered. You can purchase slickers in the nearby gift shop to stay dry, but that won't keep your feet from getting soaked!
Soarin' Over California is a MUST. Take a simulated flight and see all the beauty this state has to offer. I was born here and I'm still amazed at its natural wonders! If you're wearing flip flops, slip them off before the ride takes off for a fun sense of freedom; don't worry, they'll be there when you get back.
Grab a sundae at the Burr-bank Ice Cream parlor. They're not cheap, but they're big and perfect for sharing.
